I will be retiring from Longshore Surgeries at the end of April 2022. I have thoroughly enjoyed my career at Longshore Surgeries which has spanned over 3 decades. We are fortunate to have dedicated and supportive staff who have been great to work with.  It is the intention of the practice to replace me when I leave, and I wish you all the very best for the future. With best wishes,  Dr David Johnston

Minutes of Longshore PPG Meeting

14th September 2021

This was the first meeting of our PPG after a long delay occasioned by the Covid pandemic.

Julian Sanger (Chairman), John and Wendy Jolley, Anne Burden, Frances Peebles

For the Practice: Kash Gopee, David Johnston

Apologies: Alison Hickford, Sheila Pettett

JS informed those present that he will step down as Chairman after the next 2 meetings.

Items discussed:

Need to recruit new members to the PPG

Need for younger members, particularly with IT skills

No clear decision was made as to the optimum numbers of committee members

JS reminded members about the core purposes of the PPG (see Terms of Reference)

How to obtain the patient viewpoint?

How to communicate with the patient population?

We discussed the use of IT. How to employ the Practice website, which has a section for the PPG.

We agreed to look at the possibility of a dedicated Email address for the PPG. We would need to agree as to how the Inbox would be monitored, and by whom. Possibly PPG members taking responsibility for this in rotation?

The PPG section of the website can be used as a notice board to inform patients of Practice development, Health Promotional activities etc

It will be necessary to encourage patients to use the Practice website. Possibly a questionnaire to see how many patients are aware of it and what services are normally available (in non-Covid restricted times)

The involvement of the PPG in patient surveys was also discussed.

Action Points for next meeting Tuesday 14th December 2021.

JS to discuss with Leanne Burke (IT) re use of Practice website

PPG notice board to advertise for new PPG members

Contact Parish magazines to advertise for PPG members

PPG notice board to encourage patients to access the Longshore Surgeries website.
